Just wondering if anybody has any info on which style they prefer and why. I'm lookin to purchase one and seem to be leaning towards the hand control model. The foot control looks huge. Any helpful comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Not going to steer you towards one over the other. I like the hand control, but if you go that route you can really enhance it by putting an on/off footswitch on it. It will involve an additional cable spliced in,but its real easy and still takes up less room than a pedal.

It depends on the boat. The foot controll can have a 62" shaft. The hand only comes in a 52". In the past I've tried both and I think the extra 10" makes the foot controll a better choice. I like not having to stand on the pedal all of the time thats why I now run a 60" Genisis.

I think it depends on how you like to fish.

If you like to motor slowly along shorelines and throw cranks ... then the hand control is probably ok. I have a buddy that fishes that way and he does not want a foot control motor.

However, my wife and I prefer to vertical jig. To do that, we need to stay on one EXACT spot on the water ... even in wind and waves. That means I need to be able to change direction and power of the trolling motor immediately as the wind/waves try to push me off that EXACT spot. I just find it easier to do that with a foot control. It also then frees my hands to rebait my jig while keeping my boat in that EXACT spot over a school of fish as my wife catches another one (and proceeds to rub it in! ... lol).

Good luck with your choice.
