Making decisions on a new boat, could use some advice.

Have a chance to buy 2 of these units new-in-boxes for $500; thats 5 bills for the pair .............No GPS puck however.

I'm currently running Lorance x100c units and a Lorance H20 handheld for a GPS; thought I should upgrade with the new boat.

Looked at the HDS units (also Hummingbird), they are both nice but like the fact that the functions/keys on the 520c is same as my current x100c.............

Is the 520c a good unit ?

Also, I want to use an NMEA network to get engine info/stats displayed on the graph.

Can anyone tell me if I can use the "OVERLAY" function on the 520c to get the motor info/stats from either a Yammie or Suzuki (still deciding on engine!) onto the graph or will I have to use a separate "page" screen for that.

I'm thinking about the 520 units because:

- I get a bow and consol unit for price of 1 HDS or HB unit (sorry, momma says I can't afford two HDS units).
- similar operation to what I have now; ie: no learning curve
- I can interchange the bow & console unit if 1 blows up on a trip.

Any thoughts ?

Sounds like quite a deal to me. The 520C and 522C are NEMA 2000 network capable and have ethernet capability. This would enable you to use the NEMA 2000 fuel and engine interfaces that are available. Through Sonar Sharing they would also let you use one transducer to display the sonar image and data on both devices. Doing so you could have a transom transducer signal displayed on both, the bow/TM transducer on both units or run them separately. For that amount of $ it's quite a deal providing you can pick up an LGC 3000 GPS module for a couple hundred bucks. To look at more on the engine monitors to to Lowrance Support or LEI Extras and search for what you are interested in.

Mexico has a pretty good deal on a 3000 reciever/puck on the swap board right now. You might want to grab that too.

Im looking for something nice to look at with color display. Dont need gps, temp would be nice though. How would this compare to say humminbirds standard on boats. Unopened with transducers count me in.
