Hey guys what do you think about women and fishing? Let me tell you a little story that happened to me just a couple of weeks ago. I was down on the Illinois River fishing sauger when it happened. A woman trolled by the boat I was fishing from and yelled, "nice hat Rich". I don't want to say that this long legged woman handlining up the Illinois River was Julia Davis, but it was. Now I know what you are thinking, how did I know this was a long legged woman. Remember I said she was handling, so her arms were clearly visible. Now if you accept the theory that a persons legs are approximately 35% longer than their arms it became obvious that this long armed handliner was also long legged. That and the fact that I went out to dinner with her and her friends two nights earlier, I knew Juls was tall. Well back to the story. We were fishing a rocky shoreline that the day before had given up a few plump fish. On this day however, we were only catching little $%^&@#$ male sauger that weren't even weigh fish. I don't like to complain but where did all the female saugers go? Why did my spot just go dead? We aren't going to cash a check catching these little freaking males! Excuse me I drifted off LaCourse for a second. Any way this woman they call Juls was fishing with a fella named Wild Bill Ortiz. As Juls piloted her Ranger by me I could see that this Ortiz fella was wearing a purple fishing shirt. Now this guy has to be comfortable with his masculinity to be fishing in a purple shirt. I know color can make a difference, but what was this guy thinking? May he had bumped his head, or maybe just maybe someone had crowned him royal.
Back to the story. Was Juls being sarcastic when she said" nice hat Rich" or did she really like my hat? After all I really fill out a stocking cap nicely. I later found out Julia was part of the MWC (Mean Women against Caps). Ok so she didn't like my hat but at least it kept the wind from blowing my ears off the side of my head. What's next, will these fishing women be checking out the cut of our Cabelas Guidewear bibs?
I've even heard rumors that some of these women may start fishing tournaments. You know what that means guys, SIZE MATTERS! Remember the good ole days when we had women convinced that 6 inches was 8 and 8 inches was eleven. Well, you can kiss those days good bye. Why these women have even gone to court and gotten themselves a judge. This judge goes with them where ever they travel and is the final word in all measurements.
Now I don't know where this Juls will appear next, but if she quietly Mercuries past you remember to tip your cap to her. Otherwise she will make fun of your hat. It's hard to say where she will turn up next. It's kind of like a Bigfoot sighting, you never know where the next one will be. H have heard that there has been a Bigoot lurking the shores of a river in Detroit.
Guys we are going to have to join forces to protect ourselves from these fishing women who troll around and put a ruler to everything they catch. It seems to me that women and fishing has opened up a new can of worms. What do you think? Good luck to all in Detroit!
