I'm contemplating a move from my current 80lb. Maxim Pro to a 101 Terrova. Has anyone made a similar swap? If so, any problems and solutions would be appreciated. Pictures would be GREAT!
I've searched the archives and many of the picture links are no longer valid.
Thanks!

Went from a 24V 80 pound thrust PowerDrive V2 to a 36V 101 pound thrust Terrova on my 2007 619.
I put on the aluminum quick-detach plate and it works great (had one on my previous 690 as well). The mounting holes from the PowerDrive to the aluminum plate matched up perfectly, so no drilling or unfilled holes for me. Not sure of the mounting pattern for the Maxxum Pro.
So - you'll need another deep-cycle battery which shouldn't be a big deal on your rig. Mine has the in-floor compartment so it was really easy. The wiring in the 620 is good-to-go for 36V to the bow.
The Terrova "hangs over" the bow more than other trolling motors - it's due to it's unique (and much improved) deploy system. However, this is a concern if you have a custom Ranger cover that is designed to go over the trolling motor - it will need to be modified to fit. Ranger can do this if you send the cover back to them. Call them and ask for the cover dept - they will walk you through the process and any associated costs.
You'll also need to rewire your plug at the bow if you have one (some people direct wire). The plug is wired differently for 12V vs. 24V vs. 36V.
Last consideration is the on-board charger. If you have a 3-bank you'll probably want to go to 4-bank. If you already have a 4-bank it may be that you'll need to lengthen one of the leads to reach the new battery. If it's a factory charger it's a Dual Pro and you can get the instructions on their website.
You'll LOVE the 101 Terrova, especially with the new iPilot coming out.
Good luck!

No need to rewire plug at bow, the same two receptacle slots that provided 24v will now simply be supplying 36V. Just need to loop in another batter in the middle of your two existing batts. If system is currently 12/24 it can all stay the same and you'll simply wind up with a 12/36 wiring design with new battery in the middle. Might as well just leave the 12v third wire off at the battery's though as it has no value now. Just make sure the power leads off the new motor are hooked to the proper blades on the male plug to sync with the two receptacles slots providing the 36v. Check receptacle with your multi-meter before plugging in the new motor. Check the neg and pos posts of the two outside batteries powering the receptacle to insure voltage is proper there also. Kind of redundant checking but gives you confidence things are proper. If wired correctly, should show around 38V with good battery's.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I should have been more clear in my requests. I got the electrical issues resolved already. I've already got a third trolling battery in place, just waiting to hook up the jumpers to make it 36V. I'm gonna be on battery overload. I've got a Verado setup and after some power steering problems (while using the kicker) Ranger had my dealer put in a 2nd cranking battery. Short story...I've now got a total of 5 batteries onboard. Moved the 2nd cranking battery from the floor compartment to the starboard side area (had to relocate the charger. Already added additional charging capacity.
My biggest concern is the mechanical mounting of the Terrova and how similar installs have went. Also of course, the Ranger cover issue and if it will work. I'll call Ranger and see what they say.
Again, any more help would be appreciated, including pictures of similar installs.
Thanks...Brian

What exactly do you need pictures of?

Specifially the mounting of the unit on the bow...where it has to be mounted relative to the edge of the boat...the mounting bracket used. I've also read that some users use a sliding mount so the motor can be slid "inboard" for docking, covering, and trailering.

PM me your email address I have some pics of both a 621 and a 620 with a 101 terrova...at least it'll give you an idea and starting point. if you want of course. Some of the pics are pretty good angles. from the top, side etc.
I just upgraded a 24v 74#AP to a new 36v 101#Terrova and while skimming through the install instructions I thought I saw somewhere the measurment specs and placement to be used for mounting the motor to your hull to acheive proper clearance and all. Might skim through those instruction and check for that info if you have access to a set of install instructions. I am not certain on this but would be happy to look tonight when I get home and see if that info is included in instructions if you don't have them on hand. My install was easy as I already had my AP set up with a quick detach minn kota slide bracket (MKA-16-02) so all I had to do was mount the motor half of the bracket and slide it into the already mounted hull half of the bracket and I was good to go. I was a little concerned whether I would clear the rub rail ok when the Terrova was deployed but it was fine.
I chose to use this bracket simply because it was already in place and my backup motors have the same thing. If I was setting up a new install, I would probably look at the MKA-21 or MKA-32 mounts as I like the newer design and operation of these mounts.
If you don't have access to a set of Terrova installation instructions, I bet you can download from Minn Kota's web site or get the info from them. I've never remounted an AP or Terrova in place of a Maxxum so not certain if the hole patterns line up or physical placement is similar enough to provide proper clearance. Let me know if I can help in any way..I got to use my new Terrova last week for the first time and after 4 days at the lake I felt it has been one of if not the best improvement I have made to my Skeeter since buying it in '03!! It is an awsome motor with great features..

I've been in contact with MK. The person I've been emailing with has tried to be helpful, but they are pretty tight-lipped about sharing dimensional infomation. I've also emailed Ranger the information on my boat and have yet to hear from them. To the best of my knowledge the installation instructions and owners manuals are not available online at MK. I haven't actually purchased the motor yet, I'm just trying to get all the preliminary work done. If you could share any of the measurement specs from your install manual, that would be GREAT and much appreciated. Thanks for the response!

I have the same setup you are speaking of. The terrova is permanently mounted.
One thing to consider is having a ram mount to keep the head secure. Another thing to watch
for is deep landings cause the bow to hit the winch roller and can break the cowling on the terrova.
Its a real nice setup and 5 batteries doesnt seem to be a problem. I also removed the kicker
isolator switch on the Vrod so both crank batts always work in parallel. Co pilot is a must.

My cowling is cracked, nothing I can do the way the nose of my 621 slides off the trailer on certain launches. I'm not even going to bother replacing it...it'll just bust again. Sucks.

I will pull my paperwork tonight and see what it shows for placement and/or measurments. I can't remember what I saw but seems like it touched on the mounting location. Send an email address to correspond with you at via my WC PM'ing. I will get back to you tomorrow with what I find..

I have found that silicone on the bunks is the ticket. On deep launches just dont back in so far and the
bow wont do the nose dive thing. The bunks dont even need to be wet and the boat glides right off.
I found the new side cover for $20 and it even came with a new minnkota sticker.
gettin a little off topic.

I thought about that.....when I keep thinking about the guys I see trying to power load and the boat just keeps sliding off the trailer, over and over and over again, till they give up and crank it....that I don't want I need to power load and have the boat stick once I get it far enough up (and I've already busted one strap as it is). My crew don't like wet feet as it is and in March, Nov & Dec when they have boots not sandles. Summer sandles fine they can walk down the ramp but early and late they won't be getting in.
Another issue I have it I have an SUV so they can't jump into the bed of a pickup and crawl onto the trailer, I'm getting a pick up next time just for this reason WAY easier for guys to help loading.

I hear ya on that stuff!!
I have had some trouble with trying to get the winch unhooked due to lubed bunks.
works too good.
