This can be a highly debateable question, but the one thing i would say, is to definately go with any metal holders, such as Tite Lok, Bystrom, Big Jon, all are good ones. this is just my opinion, and from experience. good luck and good fishin.

I definatly agree with Den. i have the titelocks on my boat and i love em. One of the best things ive every bought for the boat.

Get metal they cost a little more but they last alot longer and dont take in UV rays like the plastic ones.

been using tite-lok's for 4 years, and do not regret spending a little extra money. sometimes you do get what you pay for. and sometimes you dont!!!

I have had the Roberts 'Pro Series Rod Holder' for two years now and pull both dipsys and inline planers with them with no problems. They look like the are made out of plastic but have a steel insert molded inside of them. Check em out.

While I know plenty of people have run the plastic holders for dipseys with no problems, I also know several that have had the plastics break under the stress of dipseys. This will be magnified with the ten foot rods. I prefer to do my gambling in Vegas...

Two suggestions on holders:
1) If your boat has a railing around the back deck on the sides where you want to run the dispeys from, the clamp on metal tube holders are a good choice. Lee's are the best but Perkos are probably adequate unless you are running 4+ days a week. Nice thing about these is you can easily rotate both horizontally and vertically in any direction. Also no holes to drill.

2) With no railing around the back deck, take a look at the Vector holders. They rotate horizontally and vertically every 10 degrees and are built like a tank. www.vectorsport.com Fisherman's Wharf in Port Clinton has them in stock. 419 734-0488.

Also if you already have the 10 foot rods for the dipseys they are fine, but not really necessary. Best piece of advice I ever received on dipseys is to make everything the same. Same rods (length & action) make it much easier to read the dipseys. We started out with 10 footers, then a 9', 8', and 7' rod. This is OK but now run identical rods on all four dipseys from each side. The 8' Okuma dipsey rods are very popular on Erie. We use the 8'-6" Okuma dipsey rods because we use the same stuff on Erie Eyes & Steelhead as we use on lake Ontario for Salmon.

Good Luck,
Steve
