Do any of you use Wyoming Knives on deer and antelope? Pros and cons would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have carried one for 25 years or so. When I first got one I was worried about cutting my fingers. I knew several that did just that. But if I use it for just certain jobs it is not a problem. It is great for a long straight rip on the hide. But I think that the gut hook blades I see around will do that too. I use the Wyoming knife for skinning as well. But last year I bought a Alaska Knife muskrat model. It worked very well for skinning. If the gut hook will combine the hide slitting and the gutting work, I will probably eliminate the Wyoming knife from most trips. But I still carry too many knives. I have a heavy old Kabar I use to break bones. Actually the Kabar would do everything. But then I wouldn't have any excuse to buy more knives.

A Wyoming knife is fine for many things. But you will still need another knife to dress your game. Good luck.

I used a 4" locking / folding knife that was very sharp for field dressing and shinning if necessary and used the Wyoming knife if I needed to half or quarter the game. They work very well for this.

nope. my fav is cabela's alaskan guide (made by Buck) knives with the S30V steel......i guess now that i think of it...anything with S30V is great! got a gerber as well. easy to sharpen and holds a great edge (field dressed 3 deer LY and still shaves hair off my arm).

I'm just curious. How would you use a Wyoming knife to quarter or halve an animal? They only have a blade about an inch long. Are you thinking of the Wyoming saw?

OK How do you like it? I have a Knapp saw but seldom use it.

I like it for what I use it for. It is compact and goes together fairly easily. Once it is put together they saw quickly. They work good for shortening the legs too.
They are not as handy as a battery powered sawsall but who packs those into the woods LOL.
