All I've heard about availability is, "soon".
There are two models in the 800 series: 898c (Side Imaging) and 858c (no SI)
The 898 will use the standard hi-def Si transducer that the 1197 and the 997/998 use
Screens are 480V x 800H, 7" diagonal
They are due to ship with all of the most recent software pre-loaded (Lakemaster compatibility, Switchfire, Down Imaging for the 898).
MSRP on the 898c is $1499, $999 for the 858c
A picture of the 898 is included below

is the 917 going to be discontinued and replaced by the 800 series?

The 858 is an updated 917. I don't think you will see the 917 after the 858 is released.

Jason,
Do you think the 998 extra processor power is worth the wait over getting an existing 997?

Hard to say. The updated processor is not the only difference between the 997 and the 998. The 998 will have a video out port like the 1197 does, and it will also have an ethernet port for potential future use.
I've been running a 997 since April and have been very happy with its performance. At the same time, I have yet to run an 898 or 998 with the new processor, so it's hard for me to gauge the performance enhancement that will accompany the updated computing power.
