Well i was thinking that if we as fisherman spend so much money on these units, we should use them in the winter, so this morning i built one out of a 38HD take a look.

Looks good, but I'm concerned you will find you will need a bigger battery with higher reserve capacity, as it will shut down once it gets much below 10 V.

A 10 amp Vexilar battery will do it for a while but that unit will draw a lot of power and amps and make short work of it in the cold.

Best bet is to hook a power adapter up so you can plug it into a 12 V accessory receptacle as needed. And/or have a marine battery handy to hook it to, just in case.

Just a hunch anyway.

Nice setup. One thing to check (if you haven't already) is to make sure you get a good gps signal with the unit that close to the antenna. I know that many of them work well that close together, however I also know of someone who did a similar setup to yours and he needs to move his antenna farther away from the unit to get it to work. I don't recall which model lowrance unit he used though .......
