Hear that the Tecuseh's are no more, Jiffy has a new engine. Anyone know who or what they are now? Pro's and con's that you have heard so far?

They don't say who's making them on the website. I think I'm glad I got the Tecumseh last year just to be safe though.
In todays' world, you don't have to be very special to make a decent 2 or 3 HP small engine. I would give the folks at Jiffy the benefit of the doubt and trust they are still producing a quality machine.
I'm sure we'll hear the bad before the good for both Jiffy and Strikemaster's new engines. They are both solid companies who will stand behind their products.

Go to the Jiffy web site, look for the manuals and support section. It will spell out the various configurations available.
Actually they issued 1 model 60 last season with the new engine, it tested out well, ran well in the deep cold, and is a very good starting engine.
The downfall last year with the new 60 was the shroud on the engine was a light pewter type metal, and they often cracked and were promptly replaced by Jiffy.
This year they updated the shrouds to a new -0 friendly design high impact plastic, and the word was it tested out well late winter...so they made the design change for the 2009 models.
I am very impressed at the new lighter weight of even the new 10" Jiffy models. They look good and appear to me to be well designed overall.
The change from a mechanical throttle to a cable throttle will take some getting used to by old school Jiffy guys, like myself, yet it may prove to be a wise change overall.

I'm not trying to start anything here, but from what I know they were a union company that could not remain competitive. Here is a link to an article about one of their plant closings which mentions they had to ship work to China and other places to try and remain competitive:

It is called outsourcing. The work goes to countries where the labor is cheap. If we worked for these wages here, we would have to borrow money to eat a Big Mac. I read somewhere on the internet that the employees at the Mercury outboard plant in China make $1.63 per hour which is great wages over there. If we worked for $1.63 per hour in our country the jobs would probably stay here. Some people would call this union busting. I guess I don't know what the solution is.
I read somewhere on the internet....
Come on now Dakotah... Your better than that.

StikeMaster and Jiffy both new they needed to look for new engines well over a year ago. It was not purely a Union deal as I understand it, they were told they would need a new supply, so they went elsewhere to get it. If your suplier tells you you will need a new source in a year, you better get on it quick....and they did.
