Hey Guys.
I'm a St. Claire River Pencil Plug Whipper in Late May/Early June, but plan on fishing the Detroit River with a bud for the first time this weekend. I know they have a tournament there this coming weekend and would like to avoid that mad house if possible. First question, at what launch is this tourney being held? Two, where else could a guy get off I-75 and launch, besides at this tourney ramp? Three, where are the best spots to fish? I have the Hot Spots map CD, so you don't have to get real specific. Four, what do you think my chances would be if I tried some pencil plug whippin on this river during the day? Thanks in advance, Capt: Dan.

If you want real good information the area check out the Detroit River article in the latest edition, April, of FLW Outdoors. You can find them at Wal-Mart or newsstands or if you are member of FLW Outdoors you already get it. This story outlines good areas to fish and the basic presentations to use, plus launch information.

The RCL Tourney launch is the Lake Erie Metropark in Brownstown, MI.

Dan:
Get off I-75 at Southfield Rd. and go left to the water. Turn right on Jefferson and there are two launches within a mile, Ecourse and Wyandotte. Water in the river is still only 36-37 degrees as of Saturday 3-30. The RCL tournament guys will most likely be down in the trenton channel. If you stay north you should be OK. Pencil plugs may not work quite yet.

OK. We decided to hit the Detroit on just Sunday. I heard the RCL tourney will be done on Saturday. True?

yes it ends sat. but on thurs they cut the field to 20 to fish on fri. and 5 boats on sat. The RCL crowd shouldn't be a problem.
