Any truth to the rumor one of the most successful pro walleye anglers is taking a break from competitive fishing?? I heard Scott Fairbarn is planning to take some time away from the professional walleye trail. However, I didn't hear any details.
I sure hope all is well with him.
Been fun watching you Scott!!!

Good luck Scott.
I fished as a co-angler with Scott in 2007 on the final day of the Detroit river tournament. Very enjoyable. Pleasure to fish with. He had game plan A,B,C,D... and stuck with it and it worked out.

Best wishes Scott. Considering the state of tournament walleye fishing and the state of the economy with relation to sponsorships, it is probably a good time to regroup and prepare for the next step. Sounds like a good move on his part, I wish him well.

I met Scott in 1994 at the first NAWA championship at Henderson Harbor NY. Scott was just finishing he undergrad degree. He was a class act. He was knowledgeable but always wanting to learn more. A very nice guy. I wish him much success. He has brought a lot of the same to walleye tournament fishing. He was partly responsible for my entry into tournament fishing.

I, for one, think an MBA degree in Marketing from a Big 10 school is a smart move. Maybe sprinkle in a little operations management. Then when the fishing bug bites, you are ready to roll.
Congrats. And keep up the good work.

Nope, he said it wasn't about the money. He said he wasn't learning anything new, which made it not so fun anymore.
He's enjoying the MBA classes, and if the oppportunity arises that he can get a job in the industry, he would be very happy with that.

Hey Goergeism,
Not a Farve or Favre or whatever you want to call it retirement. Can I say that I will never fish tournaments again? No, I can't say what I will do in the distant future. I will say that it won't be any time soon and that my decision is not a scheme as you appear to be implying.
Actually, someone told me that this thread had started here at WC and I left it alone for a week trying to decide if I really wanted to address it. I have a pretty longstanding personal policy of not getting involved in commenting here because of the anonymity the system provides. Anonymity that allows unnamed people to imply things that call into question the character of people who are brave enough to enter the ring. I understand the longstanding argument that has existed here at WC for years about the value of having anonymity in advancing a discussion. I think everyone needs to realize that as a result, people that really have valuable things to say simply avoid the site altogether, and I'm not just referring tournament pros. It is simply a tradeoff that appears to work for Scott G. and his system. I recognize that fact.
In the end I decided to respond because I realized that several friends that I have met in my travels, and who know a little about my character from personal experience, wished me well and I wanted to recognize that fact. It is unfortunate that those whom I haven't met and can't know feel free to add their view or thoughts regarding my character as well.
Best wishes in your fishing pursuits.
Scott

Good luck in your future endeavors and thanks for your help in the past Scott F. If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know.
I thought I would address the point you made about allowing non registered users to post.
I firmly believe that registration doesn't solve anything.
If people register under a moniker (and that is how it's done) you never know the true identity of the person posting anyway.
So I maintain.....what is the difference between a "Guest" that is unknown or a registered moniker who is also unknown?
With over 25,000 registered users I have plenty of problems with registered users as well as Guests.....it's a toss up.
I truly believe the only functioning solution is to use Moderators to control the atmosphere.
I also maintain that "other sites" with MUCH less traffic will never have the same problems that Walleye Central does.
It's easy to control a dozen posts a day......very easy.
Now I'll quit hijacking your post and again wish you luck with your future.

Scott G.,
I think you may have missed my point. I mentioned that I fully understand your system. And further understand that it is your system. The reasons you outlined are good ones.
However, my point is that people that have contributions to make to any discussion routinely avoid participating in the discussion for the reasons I outlined. It took about 15 hours for my personal policy of not posting here, for my personal own reasons, to be confirmed.
Once again, there are positives and negatives that you have clearly outlined. Everyone knows the rules. Enter at your own risk. Tradeoffs are always neccessary.
I simply was pointing out why I don't post here often (I'm sure you can check the records, IP and otherwise, of when the last time I posted) because of my tradeoff. I have my reasons and after a long hiatus my reasons are confirmed.
Once again, I fully understand the policy. It is always my decision to enter.

We wish you the best of luck in the future. Your a class act and it has always been fun shooting the bull with you at the sport shows. We're confident you will do well in whatever pursuit you chose. Who knows - maybe resort management.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Scott and good luck with your classes!
I'm sure we'll see you down the road someplace...enjoy your new adventure! :)

Scott: I admire your determination to further your education. I think the sport will miss a great contender and clearly a class act. I had several opportunities to fish with you or Petey, Jimmy or the rest of the guys and i thought you were a great person not only on the water but off as well. I know the decision was difficult and took some time and was well thought out. May you have success in your next venture and may you and your family enjoy the time together.
Ps if you get up to Devils give me a call new cabin being built on the lake should be front door fishing.

Yep, best of luck indeed. I was getting ready for some morning readin, and decided to grab an old insider. Aug 1997. And what do I see, Scott F. talking about the ice boat and sponsorships all together.
Wonder what a business plan would look like for a tournament touring pro?
hey scott, let us know when that pro fishing case study is done. its got to be a fascinating read.
