I was thinking about going to fireline this year but have heard alot about the line not staying in plannerboard releases very well. Also the snap wieght system clips not working so well. Do I need a certain type of release or is there a beter way to put your line in the releases you already have.Maybe Im worrying for nothing but would like some input from some of you guys that use the line all the time before I spend $100 bucks putting line on all 10 of my trolling rods.PS what lb test and color do you suggest for Erie. Thanks in advance The Smalleye

In my humble opinion, Church Tackle makes the best superline clip. The advantages are they are easy to open, easy to insert the line in, do not require any "wrapping" and hold extremely well.

You don't have to be careful with the edges, but they can fray from rubbing in plastic boxes, etc. My tourney partner cuts the fingers off packing gloves and pulls them over his clips like a sheath with a rubberband to hold them when the clips aren't in use.

Good Luck!!!

I have fished the Offshore boards and fireline successfuly with the OR16 releases but they require double wrapping. They have now came out with the Snapper release(or18) that is quick and simple, a cam locking system, no slipping and no double wrapping. The boards come factory with the or14 so you will need to upgrade.

As for the snap weights, thread a snap swivel thru the split ring and attach to your line, this will allow the weight to stay attached if a strike pops the release from the superline.

I use Spiderwire Fusion on most of my rods. I have Fireline on one.
I purchased a Snap Weight Kit at Dick's Sporting Goods (where I work)
and used 2 of the releases from it on my Off Shore Boards. Have had no trouble with them. It was cheaper buying the Snap Weight Kit than buying the releases alone. These are the red OR 16 or 18 releases. They have a little pin that your line goes behine.

See you on the water.

I like the 20 and/or 30 lb. test Fireline. It seems to hold better in the releases. With the OR-16's you will still want to double wrap the line thru the front release. You might also want to run a speed-o bead on the line about 4-5 ft. in front of the bait/lure to keep weeds and debris that accumulates on the lines from fouling your presentation as quickly. These are just a plastic bead found at your local tackle shop that can be twisted onto the line without cutting and re-tieing. They really help keep you running cleaner longer.
