View Full Version : Where is the hyd steering resevoir on Lund tyee?
Have an 07 1950 Tyee. There is a fill screw on the dash for the power steering. The manual doesn't say a thing about where the resevoir is. Assuming its under the dash somewhere? Anyone ever found it or looked for it? I'd like to check the level in the reservoir, steering is pretty free and easy, but I can't turn it with 1 finger like should be the case, so just want to make sure its right full and no air lock in the system. Maybe I'm just getting weaker!
Thanks again guys

There is no reservoir, just the pump/helm and the hoses that run directly to your cylinder mounted on the front of your motor if you check out the cylinder you'll see the bleeding valves (probably covered by little black caps). To fill you need the filler tube (which Lund should have given you with the boat along with owners manual for the whole system with instructions) and some compatible oil. DO not spill any oil on your carpet, it will cause the glue to lift.
Attached in the document you will see how to fill and bleed the system and the fluid you can use.
Nevermind on the file it was to big. Go here http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/PDFs/296221-E.pdf

The reservoir is the pump itself. It should be filled to the bottom of the hole on top of the pump. If you have a remote fill (apparently you do with the fill hole on the dash) it should be filled just to the point where the fluid starts to come into the clear hose that connects the pump with the remote fill plug. Remember, this is not power steering. It is hydraulic steering and you turning the wheel turns the pump and moves the fluid. It will never be as easy to turn as a vehicle with power steering like your car or truck.
Thanks guys. That link helps out a lot. I'm not 100% certain its a SeaStar system. It doesn't say Seastar on the pump by the motor. A buddy has an 08, and it has "Seastar" written on his tho. I'll have to check thru all my manuals again, but I dont recall a thing about the hydraulic steering or a filler tube like is being described. Thanks for the info guys, now I have a starting point anyways!

The L4 Verado's (which the 175 is) were available from Lund with either Uflex hydraulic steering OR the Mercury Power steering. If you have the power steering, you will notice a huge difference in steering with the engine running as compared to when its not.
