I overfilled my 2000 Fisherman Adventure 1800. The nossle at the pump stuck & I spilt gas all over the place including INSIDE THE BILGE... I have added 4 gallons of water and sloshed it around & drained TWICE... And added a pint of bilge cleaner w/ water & sloshed it around for a few miles ( trailering) dumped it out & it still smells up the garage & house.. Anyone know of any sucessful methods of eliminating the fumes or something I am missing ?
:banghead:
Thanks for the tips... Bill

Bill, I would take a lot of dish soap, add a bit of water. Scrub the soap every where near the spill. Inside compartments, on the carpet, on all the surfaces. The more soap the better. Let it drain into the beige area. Get the garden hose out and rinse away as much as you can. Then get the wet and dry vac out and vacuum everything up. Good luck it may take a couple of tries.

Simple Green may work too.

Time heals all wounds.

Leave it out in the sun as much as you can. Have a fan blowing thru the boat. It will go away but will take some time.

You probably got the gas out of the boat, but the gas in the filller tube, which was up to the top, is probably still seeping out.

I agree, you are probably getting some sell from the gas tank. Drain some, it will seep especially in the sun. Dawn soap will really cut the gas.

Costco has Ice carwash soap works great $6bucks for big jug. I use both to clean out my bilge area

1. If the tank is full to the top, drain or syphon off about a 1/2 gallon to insure that you don't have leakage over the tip of the filler or out the vent.

2. Take the boat to a power car wash, and use engine cleaner and high pressure soap to clean out the bilge and underside, transom area. Then, use the high pressure rinse to rinse as well.
At the same time power wash the underside of the boat and trailer and trailer carpet - if you happen to have any.
If you have any carpet on your gunnel, power wash that as well, since the gas may have gotten in that area.
3. Take the boat home - put it in the garage and put about 3 20 inch fans on the boat, with all compartments open , and the drain hole open for a week.

Good luck
