Dogs are very capable creatures that at times seem like they may even possess super powers. Tell us what amazes you the most about your "super hero"

I'll start:

1. They know exactly, almost to the minute when it's 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. I know this, because they sit anxiously by their food bowls.

2. After a long retrieve on a dead bird, while carrying it back with a snout full of scent from the dead bird sitting basically in his nose, he can catch scent of another bird, spin around, and lock up tight on that scent of the new bird hiding in the brush.

3. That they know to flush a rabbit and point a bird. Same goes for pointing a live bird vs searching out and retrieving a dead bird. If they didn't see it go down, why doesn't the dead bird get pointed too?

4. Offer the same absolute unconditional love towards me whether I'm petting them in the living room or telling him to jump into a half frozen river. My wife doesn't offer this...

I could go on and on, but I'll save some for others. It's kind of fun to think about.

I read somewhere that dogs dont have a sense of time as it relates to being apart but I know that is false. If I go outside for a while and come back in my dog may turn her head to look at me. If I leave all day she will greet me at the door excited. If I leave for days at a time she goes berzerk to see me and shadows me for an hour. She also nails feeding time down with her inernal clock.

I have a 10 month old little boy and when he was about 3 or 4 months I was working in my office late at night. It was not uncommon for the baby to wake up crying and then go back to sleep. My lab never thought anything of it. One night he was crying and was having trouble going back to sleep. Finally did and about 30 minutes later I looked over and the Lab wasn't where he normally sleeps while I'm in my office. I walked out and looked over. He was sleeping right outside the babies room. Never left. Turns out the baby had a very serious ear infection. I have no idea how or why but the only time he sleeps near the babies room is when he isn't feeling well. It's quite amazing.

I also find it interesting that the dog can be asleep on his bed while I'm working and if I say the F word, no matter how loud, he will slowly get up and walk out of the office and go lay down somewhere else. LOL Apparently, he doesn't like swearing. ????

That's funny you should say that. Both of our labs do the exact same thing, but my Golden just lays there.

I was told many years ago dogs only do a small part of what we think they can, and they have no ability to reason, 4 dogs and many years later I think both them statements are wrong.

I'm told of a story from one of the members of the Springer club I belonged to of members taking their dogs to hospitals and such trying to do a bit of goodwill.

At one hospital there was a young child that that was unresponsive, and basically immobile in a wheel chair, the member brought their dog in to a room that had several patients in it and the Springer went right over to the child and place his head in the child's lap...

The child who had been non responsive to that point started to pet the dog.

Say what you want, but this dog lover thinks there's times when dogs are smarter than people.

Good post Wheels, brings back a few memories for me.

All of my Springers have been/ are that way.
Any cuss word will do... doesn't have to be loud either.

She's been gone 7 years, but when my dog was alive, she thought she was human. I'd like to think she was smarter than that......

Thanks for the smile...

In loving memory. He was one **** of a dog. Best memory with Chesty. Happened to be at a narcotics certification. We (HE) found every dam HOTDOG and missed all the herione hides. Of course I didn't know that at the time. Left the certification feeling good; then P.O. However something to laugh about for the years to come even after is passing 07-26-09.
