Anybody have any input on a 2001 Ford Expedition with the 4.7 or 5.4 liter engine?

If is to be used for a tow vehicle as your subject sugests then I'd opt for the 5.4 Litre. I had a 1999 with the 4.6 and it was a dog for towing. I've never towed with the 5.4 but have heard others say it is good. If the vehicle is to be used for mostly driving empty with an occasional tow then the 4.6 would work. Loved the vehicle hated the motor. Personally I'd like to see them put something with a little more hair on it than the 5.4...Powerstroke maybe?

5.4 never be under-gunned

I had a 98 Expedition with the 5.4. Had plenty of power to pull a 2025, but gas mileage is not the best. Other than the gas mileage, it was a great truck.

I would recommend the 5.4. I have a 2000 model and tow 5000mi. each summer. I went from a dodge ext cab pickup with 318 and would never go back. I average 14 mpg towing and 16mpg empty. 4000 lb boat and trailer combo.

On this and most any other board you always here about "maxxing out h.p. on your boat". Why take a chance on your tow vehicle.

I've a '01 EB Expedition with the 5.4L. I pull ~5000 lbs boat and trailer. It is a pleasure to drive and handles the trailer and weight well. 13 mpg is to be expected and less on up hill runs. I looked long and hard at the 4.7L Sequoia but went with the power. Enjoy.
