View Full Version : Deep Cycle battery recommendations for 01 1900 Lund

I did a search here on W/C for battery recommendations and thought I would ask specifically for my boat and trolling motor.

I have an 01 1900 Lund, with a 24 volt system for the trolling motors, an AP60 on the front and a engine mount Minn Kota 60 on my main motor. Both are 24 volt electric motors.

I would prefer a sealed battery as I had some earlier issues with the vented ones and I don't want to go through that again.

Thanks for any help.

I too moved away from vented ones after some "issues".

I ran Dual Pro AGM's and liked them but they no longer sell batts so went with the Cabela's AGM batts.I've had excellent results with the Cabela's branded AGM batts.

Make sure to look on any batt and find "manufactured date"; it will be stamped on it somewhere.

Buy ones that are the newest; usually in the back of the pile of batts.

Buying from a source that sells lots of batts will help you get one that has not been sitting there forever also.

Good Luck

My EM80 runs all day on the walmart specials... I looked at the AGM's but couldn't open my wallet far enough. If you find some really good deals, let us know. Good luck...

Hey - do you really have an EM 60??? or was that a type-o and you really have an 80???

I have had great success with the new DieHard Platinums. I have never had trolling motor run times like I have with these batteries. They are an AGM battery and very forgiving. I have not found a battery with a higher reserve capacity. The down side is that they are extremely expensive (but well worth it for what I want them to do).

Good luck!

Darin,
I am pretty sure it is a 60, but it could be a 55. It was one of the first em's produced by Minn Kota, and I got it third hand about four years ago. I had it reconditioned by the local Minn Kota Service center near Alum Creek Ohio and it has been a very good unit for my boat. Pushes the Lund up to 2.2. I like to use the em for quiet trolling .8 up to 1.6. If I need to go faster than 1.6, I start up the T-8 to save battery life.

Looks like the Platinum 34m is a little pricey($189 is the best I found), but what I may end up with. I couldn't tell at the Sears website though, is this a sealed unit?

I am surprised noone suggested any of Optimas. Seems like a few years ago that was the one to go with. Any input, good or bad, on these?

To consider the Cabelas AGM's, I'll have to measure the height I have available. By their specs they are a tall battery(almost 10"). Also, I can't seem to tell by the photo what type of posts they have.

Thanks,
OhTrapper

Yes the Sears DieHard Platinum is sealed. It is an AGM battery and can be placed in any position. There are a few group sizes available- look at the reserve capacity and find the one that best fits your needs.

Good luck to you!! :-)

The Platinum Diehards have been awesome for me. It is my understanding that Oddessey is actually the manufacturer. I like the Diehards because Sears is easy to deal with if you ever have a warranty issue. I don't know what Oddessey does for a warranty, but Sears is everywhere.

The Walmart Everstart Maxx's are also good for price, numbers, and warranty, but you have to maintain them. They are a great buy though.

Just what i was about to say, odyssey and sears platinums are the same battery.Your right about just going to sear and getting a replacement if 1 ever fails and i doubt that. They have a 3 year non prorated warranty-the best in the business-cabellas is half that i believe.I no any new boat with a verado hanging on the back has to have a agm battery in it from the manufacturer.P>S i dont like optima's once they start to go bad they go completly out and you dead in the water-junk imo.

I installed 2 Interstate SRM-27 for my 24volt trolling motor and am pleased with their performance. I can get 3 or 4 days without charging on my weekly trips. Priced at about $88 each I am happy so far with their performance.
