I am in the process of upgrading my electronic in the bow of my boat. Will either/both the Lowrance HSD 5 or the Humminbird 788ci be capatible with my 5 year old Minnkota AP with US 1? Will either/both be able to act as a stand alone GPS for ice fishing?

Thanks

The HDS will be compatible with MKR-US-5 cable. The Universal Sonar 1 does not have temperature or a dual frequency transducer. So no temp and no 83 khz, 200 only.

You can use either or both as a stand alone GPS for ice fishing. If you go with the 788c you'll probably want the ci version with the internal GPS antenna if you're going to use it for ice fishing.

If moving it from your boat to a portable, you'll need things like a mounting bracket, a power cable, and a battery. I'm just pointing that out because some guys overlook the fact that their power cables and mounting brackets are mounted to their boats and not always easily removable ---- you may be better off getting a 2nd set for ice fishing use.

The Humminbird US adaptor is MKR-US-7. When using as a gps when ice fishing just disable the sonar part on each unit to stop them from trying to look for a transducer.
