I have a strike master auger that is ready to be retired. It is about 5 years old. Wanting advice as to what is the auger to buy. Has anyone got experience with the 4 cycles and if you were to pruchase a new auger what would you pick up.

I just retired a Jiffy Model 30 that was about 15 years old --- actually I recycled it (sold it to someone else). It was still running and cutting great, I just decided to get something newer and lighter. I went with a StrikeMaster.
I didn't get the Strike-Lite, but I was really tempted by the light weight. Nils is another auger that has a reputation for being light and fast.

I am curious why after only 5 years you need to retire your Strike Master? Maybe if it was not a Lazer I would understand. Or maybe it is one of those 3hp pigs.
With a little TLC and carb maintenance you should have many years of trouble free service.
I bought the Strike Lite 4-stroker a couple of years ago. Starts great and cuts real fine.
I bought an Eskimo in about 1978. I retired it in 2000, and I bought a Jiffy. I don't plan on retiring this one until about 2020. I retired the Eskimo because I got tired of machining new blades. It still runs and probably would cut if it had a blade. It is really loud thou.

I bought a new Jiffy 8" STX Pro last year at the start of the season. It performed flawlessly all year and I drill a lot of holes. It's faster and lighter than a 3 HP Model 30.
You won't go wrong with any of the main brands, so look at warranty, ease of service (2 cycle vs 4), price, or just let your wife pick out the one she thinks looks the coolest. In the end, the only thing that really matters is that it drills faster than your buddy's does :)

The new Jiffy models are far lighter in a 3 hp and the 2 hp models. Huge difference in the new 3 hp 10.25" in weight over the old model.
Compare the new StikeMaster Map Pro 10.25" with the Jiffy, both are good, the new Solo engine design on the StrikeMaster is very nice. The new engine configuration on the Jiffy is smart and they start and run even better than before.
The 9.25" apparently is harder to find now, but Jiffy still offers them. I prefer the 9.25" Jiffy STX over the 10.25". I do not think StikeMaster offers a 9" now, in any model?

Backwater,
I'm currently shopping for a new auger and I'm a fan of the 9". I emailed Strikemaster asking about the availability of a 9. They replied that although I cannot purchase a 9" model, they do have them at the factory. They said I could call them and get a return authorization, mail the lower unit to them (before using it) and they would return a 9" version. I'd have to pay to ship the original to them. This applied to the Lazer Mag and Lazer Pro models (2.5 and 3hp) Don't know if they have anything available for other models.
Good fishing.

That is good to know..thanks.
Do the say if they have the 9.25" in a chipper as well as the shaver? Mag and Lazer flightings?

I only asked them about the 9" shaver (Lazer models). Go to their website and email their cust support - I got an answer right away.

Jiffy just switched to different engines so I am at a loss as what to suggest. My 4 year old 2-hp Stealth is beautiful but I dont know anything about the new ones.

Ya know what really empresses me with the new Solo engines is they will run vertical, horizontal...and even upside down.
Yup..I said upsidedown.
Bro Brosdahl and I were showing them at Gander Mountain in Fargo last Saturday and what I discovered is I can tilt them at a horizontal angle left, and right, and no flooding or choking out...and just for fun...I said Bro..."Watch this"...turned it upside down and opened up the throttle....still ran at full power.
As a nearly 25 year Jiffy veteran..(GULP) .. ..I'm going to say it....here we go...Yup..I'm very impressed with the new StrikeMaster Solo engines!
If I replace mine this season I am sure the StikeMaster Solo Magnum or Pro, or possibly the Strike Lite will to be my choice.
Mac,
As one of the other posters asked, why are you wanting to replace an auger that is only 5 years old.
I have put about 5 different augers on my strikemaster over the years, but the motor still runs like new after drilling many many hundreds of holes.
If you just need a different auger and set of blades, you can normally pick these up for less than $100.
Save the old one to drill dirt in the summer time.
Good luck
