ethynol

I spoke with a mercury mechanic today and he says they have been putting ethynol in gas for many many years and Mercury addressed it many years ago with the brown gaskets. seems they changed gasket material and color was changed from black gaskets to brown gaskets
can any of you marine mechanics or dealers confirm this ?
