Looking for advice on buying a handheld vhf radio. The primary purpose is to talk to other boats and use in case of emergency. I am leaning toward a handheld so that it can be taken between my fishing boat and duck boat.
Can anyone recommend a specific handheld unit and why you liked it?
Thanks

I bought a Standard Horizon 270 (HX270S) 3 years ago and recommend it. Standard Horizon makes good radios. Can be bought today for under $90.
No handheld matches the range of a permanent mount with 8' antenna, but this handheld has worked well enough for my duck boat.

A couple of years ago, Costco, online, had a really great deal. A ship to shore radio, at a very decent price. Plus, they threw in at no additional charge a hand held radio. You should check, that deal may still be floating around.
