would you pay 1200.00 for a 2002 merc 9.9 4 stroke, long shaft with electric start ? It seems to be in real good condition except for a couple marks from handling the motor.

Based on the 9.9's I've bought and sold over the last 2 years, $1200 is fair. But, to be honest with you, I'd rather see you try to find a T-8 or ProKicker that has built-in power tilt, with the stronger bracketry. I'd hate to see you fall in over the transom.

I agree. It would be worth a little extra for one of the above mentioned motors. I have had 3 T-8's and would never go back.

I had one on my Crestliner for 8 years and it was perfect. No problems at all with the elect tilt. Just dont drive like a nut, I know you dont

But whatever you get, make sure you get something with a power tilt...

do big foot motors have power tilt, I don't know if this one does or not.
It seems some feel the brachetry is weak on the big foot is this the case ?
I don't have power tilt on my evinrude 9.9 and it works good, but because of a shoulder injury I do want electric start which my evinrude does not have.

if this motor doesn't have power tilt, how hard is it to tilt ? I mean is it a real back breaker or about the same as any other 9.9 kicker ?

You can alway buy a Panther mount for the trim and tilt. I have it on my 1900 Lund and it works great.

I think all the pro kickers have electric start, tilt and trim, and charging system... Not sure about the big foots, though. I don't fish a lot of big water, so I would do it... That's about all I would spend on a kicker these days because I'm not trolling as much as I used to, or would like. All of my trolling these days in on water that isn't that rough, and it's never for more than 5-6 hours, and it's almost never into the waves... so I can get away with just using my engine mount trolling motor (which I love by the way). If i were in the market for a 9.9... I'd grab that one for sure.

wow the panther lift is pricy, I believe if its not power tilt & trim, I can have it put on for around 300.00
If not how hard can it be to raise and lower the motor by hand, I mean how much harder than the 9.9 evinrude that I have now ?

If you can do it now qith no problem then I would not worry about it.

I thought you had a bad arm? thats why you were looking at the power tilt

I have a bad shoulder, thats why I am looking for electric start. I am right handed and its my right shoulder that is bad and have trouble pulling starter cord. I can get away with using my other arm to raise and lower the motor if need be. I could get one of those handles from Cabelas for raising and lowering the motor. A guy showed one to me at the dock and it really worked nice. Electric start is the most important to me, power tilt would be a plus

I found a complete electric start system for my 1986 evinrude 9.9 long shaft for 225.00, not the comes the decision. Add the electric start to my motor or buy the 2002 9.9 Bigfoot for 1000.00 ?

Give me some opinions and reasons guys.

I would still get the bigfoot. Have you ever trolled with a 4 stroke kicker? no fumes, purrs like a kitten. Much much nicer than your old 2 stroke.

As long as you dont premix 2 stroke oil in your main tank thats what I would do.

I think it was during 2002, maybe 2001, that Merc went back to a pull choke rather than automatic. Quite a few problems with the auto choke, believe they had a retro-fit kit to change it to a pull knob.
