There is usually an adjustment screw that can help. It is usually located up in the mounting flange between the seat and the pedestal. Remove the 4 screws that hold the seat to the pedestal and you should see it. It comes out the the pedestal post. Don't remember which way you turn it to do the adjustment.

I know this sounds crazy, but if they won't go up or down are you sure they aren't locked (most have a lever to lock the pedestal)? Otherwise I'd agree take the seat off and mess with the piston adjustment screw, note you don't have to turn that thing very far to make a change.

Yes,,agree,,if you have the type with the lock lever, even if the lock is only partially engaged, will bind the shaft. But if a Springfield, will probably need to adjust the screw.

do you bring them inside for the winter? I had a couple that stopped working and I called springfield and they had me send them in and they replaced them free. they were 2 years old at the time if this helps.

Below is a Diagram showing how to Adjust your Air-Ride Pedestals. Both removable and fixed units adjust in the same way. To adjust your unit you must first remove your Seat and Slider and or Swivel from the Pedestal. This should exspose an adjustment screw in the center of the pedstal. This will look simular to the drawing below. Follow the instructions on the below drawing for adjusting.
