I use one for perch. The electric knives make short work of them. Fillet knives wear out to fast on their skin. Walleyes on the other hand I still prefer the fillet knife.

I have the "American Angler" that was purchased at Walmart for $30.00. I have used it on perch and walleyes and feel it does a great job in short order.

I use an electric knife all the time except for one time and that is the fly-in trip I have in June. And now, using a regular knife on the fly-in is a thing of the past. I purchased a rechargable cordless knife. They say that they can be used for 45 min. before needing a recharge. I have used it on crappie this year and so far, I am more than happy with it. I think the electric knife makes for a cleaner looking fish filet and it speeds up cleaning fish. I have used an electric knife for over 10 years and I find that I can clean in excess of 60 fish in a hour. At times, I think the electric knife removes more meat than a hand knife. And I also use an electric knife for walleye, crappie, bluegill, perch, and salmon. I imagine I will get a response that a hand knife removes more meat than the electric but I think it boils down to what you are most proficient at.

Love them. Would not go back to manual. They are great for panfish and do well on walleyes too. I have the Mister Twister, the same one I bought 8 years ago. Could probably use a new set of blades this year. It's the house current one. My friend, who guides, uses the 12V and loves it. Pulls the pickup up to the cleaning station, opens the hood, hooks up and has a limit of crappies done in no time. Workds day after day, no problem. That's the buzzzzzzz, the shocking truth.

I have used both and old electric bread knife and now have a Mr. twister. I wouldn't fillet panfish with out it. I used to think electric knives seemed ridiculous until my dad and I stayed at a resort where they offerd to clean your catch. Well we felt silly so we offerd to help. The old guy doing the cleaning used an electric and boy he could go through 3-4 to our 1. The next week I had one of my own and have used it ever since. The other trick I learned was to take an old table fork, bend the last 1/4 inch of the tines to 90 degrees, then use that to hold the fillets when taking the skin off or rib bones out. They never slip out of my hand and more.
I do agree that on walleye I still like my regular knife.
good luck.

I use a combo method when I clean. I use my electric to get the fillets of the carcasses and then use a regular knife to take the ribs out and the skin off. I do a better job that way. Both panfish and Walleye.
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

Purchased an "American Angler" 12 volt knife this winter and have cleaned several hundred bluegills and perch with it. Works very well. The cord is 18' long and has both alligator clips and cigarette lighter plug so is versatile. If no 12 volt battery is handy we have run our knives off a trickle battery charger with no problems.

I've got 2 of the american angler 12v elec. knives. Work great, been using them for a few years now on perch & walleye. I carry a battery booster pack with me at all times, just plug the knife into the pack or even run 2 knives off the pack at the same time.
I have the new one that cabelas sells also, it is not the same as walmarts. These new ones are the american angler ultra. Faster motor, more comfort hand grip. Bass pro has them also for a little less $$.
You can buy the replacement knives for them. I have mine sharpened a couple of times before I replace them. I've already cleaned hundreds of perch this winter on the same blades. Getting ready to sharpen them again!
Take care,
Brad
