Hello guys, A friend and I were up in the Maumee acoulpa weeks ago, in a boat, anchored all day till 3:30 when the anchor broke loose. My buddy was in the back in a seat and I was standing on the bow, he noticed it first and told me and I said I would get it, I reeled my line up and bent over to set my rig down when the anchor caught! I must have cleared the boat by 5 feet!BRRRR....The water temp was 40 and the wind chill was 22! Needless to say that ended my fishing day. The funny part came the next day when we were anchored in the same spot. My friend just started busting out laughing,he said he overheard some of the waders across the river talking about the incident the day before. One told another about it and said "Yea, the one poor guy was bending over to get the anchor and the other guy kicked the boat in gear and threw him out!" Well...a good fishing story I can tell for a lifetime I suppose! We are coming back to the Maumee on the 16th, does anyone use anything other than floating jigheads,or leadheads? Will they bite anything else? What other technics can you use there at this time of year? We snag alot of eyes, anyway to avoid this? Any help will be greatly appriciated! Thanks in advance! Dale

P.S.Anyone ever try just fishing on the bottom with a heavy weight and a minnow? It works at Devils lake.

I have a similar story that happened to a friend of mine a few years back. We were fishing off shore below Petenwell Dam. There are bolders that slope down that get quite tricky to walk on. Anyway, it was mid March and it was pretty cold. My buddy had a hard time keeping his balance on one of those bolders. My dad's friend ended up bumping him and in he went. Poor guy was freezing! We went up into the bait trailer and asked if he could change in back. I'll never forget this. There were 5 older gentlemen sitting at the table playing cards. One of them said, "Fell in, eh?" "Why didn't you stay in, the water is warmer than the air!" No mercy.

Hi,
I have seen guys catch Walleyes in the Maumee on a Bobber and jig and minnow.I have only seen a few guys fish like this .If they are in good you should have no problem using floating Jigs.Don't be afraid to change colors .A certain color can be red hot.
