Well after four weeks off and on, holding out for a gobbler, I shot a nice sized hen turkey. Hens are legal in Michigan's fall season. I'd been seeing lots of birds, just no Tom's, so I ambushed one of the thirty or so hens and jakes that were crossing on my hunting parcel and roosting on my neighbors. I've been bow hunting for deer and try as I might, I just couldn't make it happen with stick and string so I broke out the 12 gauge last evening, set up in one of those one man chair blinds and waited them out. It looked as though they had given me the slip when this hen glided down, 25 yards away from my set up. A quick introduction to some #4's and my fall turkey season was in the books. This was only my second turkey that I've ever taken and special because it was on my own hunting parcel. Now it's back to chasing whitetails.
