How warm does the water need to be before you start using leeches on jigs and live-bait rigs? Does it make a difference if you are using bottom bouncers? Just wondering what your preferences were.

I start using leeches opening weekend (May 18th) up here in Northern Ontario, temp makes no diff IMHO

I have found that using them below 50 deg. F, they tend to curl up and not swim. Below 50 you are better off with minnows or crawlers.

To prevent them from curling, keep them in a bait bag in the lake. Thier body will get use to the lake temp after a few hours, and they will work great!!

I start using them as soon as I can buy them.

I have never tried this but I had heard that you can put Preparation H on a leech and they willl straighten out. Whoever came up with this one IMHO had too much time on their hands. Has anyone else heard that one?

Prep H is suppossed to irritate the leech and make it squirm. I knew one guy who swore by it,said the dif is 3 to 1, but I haven't tried it yet. Prep H, if the old In-Fish is still accurate, has shark oil for smell too.

You have to put Viagra on them if you want them to straighten out.

Preperation H just might work. It sure helps a bad sunburn overnight so why not. How small of a applicator do you use?

When using leechs on a bouncer make sure not to go too fast.
They will start to spin if you go too fast.
