If I plan on roughing up the current paint,do I need to treat the boat with anything before spraying on a new coat of paint? Also, what is some of the better looking longer lasting metallic paints to use in this situation? Do I need a gloss coat of any sort? How much does it cost/gallon for paint and possible gloss?

MAKE SURE YOU DEGREASE THE AREA TO BE PAINTED WELL, AS TO GET ALL THE OLD WAX AND SILICONES OFF. IF YOU DON'T, YOU COULD HAVE SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH ADHESION. ROUGH UP THE OLD PAINT WITH ABOUT A 220 GRIT PAPER. DIFFERENT PAINTS REQUIRE DIRRERENT GRITS OF PAPER. READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST. I HOPE YOU ARE PLANING ON USING A GEL COAT FOR PAINT. REGULAR PAINT WILL NOT LAST ON A BOAT. YOU MIGHT WANT TO VISIT YOUR LOCAL BOAT DEALER OR A BOAT REPAIR SHOP TO FIND OUT IF YOU CAN BUY THE GEL COAT THROUGH THEM. PRICE DEPENDS ON WHAT COLOR YOU PLAN ON USING. GOOD LUCK

Light sand and Scotch Brite. Wax and Grease remover and Denatured Alcohol. Don't know what if any special requirements are needed for the paint/clear coats in marine applications.
