I have an 1989 Johnson 90HP outboard. It starts and runs fine. I can idle all day and it idles perfect. The problem is this. In May was fishing a tourney. Going full blast across the lake when all of a sudden it starts to slow and sounds like the prop is out of the water. Then do to a death in the family the boat sat until October. Idled down the river fine. Got on the lake and hit the throttle and wouldn't go anywhere. Took it to a shop and they replaced the coils and a fuel regulator. Started the boat at the ramp and it started right up and idled down the river fine again. Engine sounded better than it has since I got it. Hit the throttle and the same thing. Motor doesn't miss or loose rpms or anything. Just sounds like the prop is out of the water and it isn't. After fishing for about 6 hours started it up and hit the throttle and it ran up to over 30 mph and seemed to be OK. Any ideas of what is causing this? Could it be the prop hub is spinning? Only have a few weeks left but would like to have it fixed so that she is able to finish the season and be ready for spring.

Yes, it could be a spun hub...which is easily repaired at a prop shop.

I agree take the prop off. I have spun a prop before, It did exactly what yours did.

Put your spare prop on and give the motor a test.
