can anyone help me with setting for my hds5 i fish lake erie nothing deeper than 30ft. of water mostly 15ft. to 25ft. and sometimes even 12ft. i set my sensitivity to 75 to 85 and ping speed set to max is the anything else i should do or any tips thanks alot dave

Crush, I read an article from Lowrance that said you should really never set your Ping speed to max because it caused added wear with little benefit. The only time max is needed would be if you are traveling in speeds excess of 40mph trying to read your graph.
I would lower that down to about 75% since you are probably trolling most the time and that is all that is needed. However if you do set your ping to max I would increase the screen speed as well, what I mean by that is make the screen pan across faster.
Lowrance also stated that factory default settings should handle about 80% of all fishing applications. I hear Lake Erie is very clear so the sensitivity you have should be fine.
