I just purchased a X104C and was wondering if anyone has any information on what update is the best. I know sometimes people update their units with the new update and end up going back to the old one. Can anyone tell me which one is best for the 104?
Or should I just update the newest update and go with that?
Thanks,

IF your unit works I would leave it alone.

Yep- this is definitely one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of things.

Thanks guys.....problem is I just got it, and I dont really know if it "works" It powers on and I have been though the GPS/Map screen and that looks ok, the sonar page looks ok, but I havent been in the water so I really dont know how good or how bad it works. Does anyone have their 104 handy and can tell me what update they are running on?
Thanks,

mine worked great until I put in the last update. Now it gets computer code all over the screen when using the newer Lakemaster chips. I would highly recommend not putting in the last update.

I agree with the comments. Last time I updated mine, it was Linda Colt, Lowrance customer service, to the rescue. (She is the only reason I'm going to buy another Lowrance). If its working I wouldn't fix it.

Oh ya, been there and done that. If you go to version 2.00 you get the computer code written to the screen, expecially with the larger chips set on Nav amd LM. Navico will recommend getting the roll-back version 1.80. If at 1.80 and your unit works, then stay there. Since they do not make the LCX104c any more, no new updates will be available. However, I managed a copy of their beta 2.20 in January of 2008 - and solved that problem. I documented the issues and tested the fix, but they still do not seem willing to put this beta version on their site for downloading. If you want to try it, no guarantees of course, I still have the *.ldr and *.bin files. I put them into zip file and attached. I used jZip (http://www.jzip.com/products.php). Good luck. jws
P.S. all donations will go into my daughter's wedding fund !$$?.

I sent you a pm. I have a few questions about the beta 2.20.

I am looking for a x104c. Please contact if you or know some one looking to sell one. I do not need to sonar or any cable just the unit.
