I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want
gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some united,
intelligent action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This
makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last year. The oil companies just laughed
at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by
refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a
problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a
plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super
cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town.
(California).
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at$1.50-$1.75 we need to
take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace
....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not
purchasing THEIR gas!! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?
Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we
CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price
war. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, starting as soon after April 1st as possible,
DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now
are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to
follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and
Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out at
this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach
millions of people!! .
I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of them send it
to 10 more (30 x 10 = 300) and those 300 send it to at 10 more (300 x
10= 3,000) ... and so on, by the time this message reaches the sixth
generation of people, we will
have reached over 3 MILLION consumers!
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each,
then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes only one
level further, you guessed it.....THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!.
All you have to do is send this to ten people. That's all. (If you don't
understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send
this to 10 people.... well, there it is, in black and white, so trust me
on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to
ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MI LLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days. I'll bet you didn't
think you and I had that much potential, did you? Acting together we can
make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this
message on.
PLEASE GIVE IT A TRY UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
THIS CAN REALLY WORK IF WE DON'T DELETE THIS AND KEEP IT GOING. DO IT
NOW, WHILE IT IS IN FRONT OF YOU. WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AND WE'VE
EVERYTHING TO GAIN AND START IT YOURSELF WITH YOUR NEXT FILL-UP.

Not my idea but interesting concept I am willing to give it a shot.

Sorry to say it, but what you propose will have no effect at all. Many different brands all buy their gasoline from a refinery. The Mobil/Exxon refineries will be producing gasoline and it will be marketed at stations with a different brand name. All you have to do to realize this is watch the different tanker trucks that pull into the Whiting, Indiana refinery (British Petroleum) The brands get their gasoline according to a "recipe" and it makes no sense for one brand to ship their gasoline too far when they can have another company's refinery make their gasoline for them according to that recipe. With our dependence upon foreign oil and the way the Saudis are not our buddies, I think we are just plain screwed. Time to put pressure on our govt. to make an all out effort toward hydrogen engines and fuel. We could use our own coal reserves to accomplish much of this. New technology which might put some pressure on the oil companies is the answer but those same companies will probably latch onto this too.

Tap Alaska like a big keg of beer. Screw the Saudis. I'm so sick of Mid East issues I could scream. IF we don't stay over there, they'll kill themselves and probably us along with them. Osama Bin yadayada hopefully is dead. The Mid East needs more leaders like the leader of Jordan, not sadaam. He's puttin' it to us to. I'll keep paying there prices because I'm not putting my LUND away for those people. I just would like a minute or two with an OPEC leader and a Louisville slugger. Its all a bunch of crap, they hate what we have and will try anything to derail it. If someone does come up with a feasable plan, I'm in. Sorry to vent people but enough is enough.

Not again. Haven't we done this enough times? And this time it's a spam chain letter too? Sorry, count me out of this one.

Eyes I agree I work at an oil refinery and I get a laugh but lets just beat a dead horse. Most of these replies haven't a clue. The biggest reason for higher prices is supply and demand. For everyone that wants to quite buying do so the price will come down and you will just stay home.
If any of you whiners want to sell me your 40,000 boat for the price the equal rig was worth in 1980 please let me know because the price of gas has stayed the same for 20 years.

Pitts, I agree, I work for one of the major oil giants in Memphis and the price of regular is $1.35 and the price for a gallon of milk is $2.59.....I guess it is time to boycott the farmers...

The price of gas or if you will crude oil is certainly a function of supply and demand BUT more important the oil business is a SPECULATIVE market and the price at the pump reflects this speculation by investors much more than supply etc. Remember also that the US has only about 3% of the known world oil reserves. As long as we rely on oil we will import and pay.

I believe it is Argentina that does not use gasoline - their cars run on ethanol (distilled corn?). We could move in this direction and help support the US farmers and we can continue to demand improvements in the developing technology of hydrogen fuel cells etc.

To "boycot" two of the major refiners is just plain stupid. It won't do a bit of good.

Just my 2 cents.
