View Full Version : Any new Airline Regs on Rod tubes?
I'm going to be going on a fishing trip with my fishing rods and don't like to have them out of my sight as fishing without them is not what I have planned.
I used to be able to take them on board and even though the rod tube is 4 1/2 ft long it will fit in the overhead.
What do the new regs say about fishing rods?
I know they consider golf clubs to be a weapon.

You better call your intended Airline and ask them. Get it in writing sent to you. Or possibly mail them ahead them and confirm they arrived before you leave.

No problem with the rods. 4 1/2 foot tube not a problem either. Should fit in most overheads. If it doesn't, attach a hanging type hook from a hanging garment bag and hang it it one of the onboard coat closets. Where ya goin?
thanks for the reply. Going bonefishing. Only thing I fear is an officious gate agent. Enquierys to the airline were not real helpful as no one wanted to take the responsibilty for a decision. Can hardly wait to see what a reel looks like in x-ray.
Mac,
It's not the answer your looking for, but your best off checking it. If they let you through security with them but let your carry on, ask them to put it on the plane at the gate. At least your sure it's on the plane. If it's not something the security people see often and there is the slightest potential risk, they typically request you check it. I've been flying 50+ times a year for 8 years and have never seen a rod tube on the plane.
