I have a G3 Angler 172T with a 75 Yamaha on it, (tiller). My trolling motor batteries are in a compartment on the right rear of my boat. Basically behind where I sit. If I move the 2 batteries to the front of the boat, how will this change or ruin my performance? I'm thinking if I get more weight to the front it may track a little better when I backtroll. Maybe not catch as much wind?

Question 2: What kind of help will a stainless prop give me over my aluminum. I've got a 13 1/2 x 15 on there now. Came with the boat. No tach. Runs about 32, gps speed, full of fuel, 33 gals, 2 people.

Thanks

A small drift sock off the bow, tied close will make it track excellent when backtrolling.
With your boat and motor a stainless prop won't help much, if at all from my experience.

The only problem I see, is weight. Adding that much weight to the bow may hurt top end.

I think your boat is similar to my 1725 Lund Pro Guide. Two trolling motor batteries are under the rod locker toward the bow, and starting battery is behind my seat. It is a very stable and well balanced boat.

I gain close to 2MPH and close to 250RPM when moved from front to back but mine is a console. Might be a bit different but sure will hurt the TopEnd.

Looks to me like a split decision. Maybe I'll just set the batteries in the front compartment where they would be if I moved them and try that before I go to wiring them in. Thanks for the input everyone.

That's what I did last year when I got my new boat. It had the problem of porpoising with any positive trim at all, or with having people sit in the stern. I moved anchors to forward bow compartment and just set the trolling battery on the deck of the bow to test. Problem fixed. Then I could take the time to re-wire and know that the planing characteristics would improve. I did lose maybe 1 mph of top speed, but well worth it when I have other people in the boat.
