I ran into a problem on my boat this fall when I had the Bimini top up. At high speed there is a fine spray of water that is sucked back into the boat because of how the air is flowing over the bimimi top. The transducer causing the issue is for my Humminbird SI unit.
I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and what you did to resolve it.
Thanks
If you already have the usually included rubber plug that installed between the bracket and the transducer there isn't much you can do. I found it impossible to get the transducer deep enough to track the bottom without throwing a pretty good rooster tail.
Cut a short section of 4" PVC pipe in half lengthwise and screw it on just above the transduce to redirect the spray back down to the water. It's not really elegant but it works great. I think I stole this idea from someone else on this board who probably deserves credit for the idea.

I have been looking around on some other forums and here and saw that one. I made the mistake of emailing Humminburd all they have to say is don't use that transducer at high speeds. I understand what they are getting at but if I move it up to the point where it doesn't throw up a bunch of water then I can't use it beyond much over an idle.
If the thing is in the water it works great. MOve it way up it is a lot less useful and I still get the mist which is what I am not happy about. Sure I can install a high speed transducer and continue to get the spray, that is Humminbird's recommendation, just install another transducer. Still doesn't address the concern of the water coming in. I can solve it by adding side and rear curtains to my top but that isn't something I want to do.
I have seen a number of different shields folks have made. THanks for the tip, in the end that is likely to be the route I go

I bought a small piece of sheet aluminum at a hardware store. You can cut and bent it into about any shape you want.

I wonder if you were to get a set of Wave Wackers for your transome if that would help?
I`d think about it if I had this problem.

Had the same problem when I put a top on my Lund. Went to WalMart and got a Farber Ware cutting board. The smaller one. Cost was under $6. Cut it to mount on the transducer mounting board on the top edge. Works like a charm.
Simply take a piece of aluminum - bend it into an L which will extend over the spray area.
Take two screws and screw it to the transom. Problem solved.
Don't put any thing on the transom that will extend into the water. It can affect performance and is not necessary.
Take care

Thanks for the folks who made the suggestions. I was thinking about the wave wackers too but I think the simple approach recommended about adding a little guard/deflecter above the transducer is the trick. I made one up the other night but the boat is pickled for the winter now (that is killing me) so I don't get to test it until the early walleye fishing on the river.

I went to tractor supply and found a piece of L shaped aluminum , cut to length , painted it body color and used two way taped to adhere it on the boat. I've only been out once but it worked great and held to the boat. good luck

Best thing to do is call humminbird and they have fixed the problem with the roostertail spray. Call them they will take care of you.
