Hi- I am looking at recarpeting my 2001 Lund 1650 Rebel V. Can anyone who has done this tell me how difficult of a job that this will be? Specifically, I am concerned about taking the compartment lids off the hinges for this because they look to be secured in place w/ solid rivets and the main floor deck is attached with large rivets. I appreciatte any feedback or input.

Drill the center of the rivet heads...they come out.
Then re-installing lids, replace with same, but new, rivets...gotten from a Lund dealer or hardware store.

It is definetly a hard job recarpeting the whole boat-your in for some suprises-hidden screws. You should order the pieces with the carpet already on them, seeing yours is a 2001 and probably needs the floor anyway.

It's not that tough, I have done several, just take your time. I have always drilled out the rivits from the hinges, mark the the forward edge of each lid (so that when carpeting you can ensure the grain of the carpet you apply to the lids is going in the same direction as the rest of the boat, or you will have shading issues), another tip, use 3M spray adhesive, what a time saver and it allows you a bit of tack time to re-position if necessary, this adhesive comes in several different varieties and strengths, especially on the lids it allows you to wrap the carpet over the edges and onto the back side, and allows you to mould it for a minute or so before it holds fast.......a little more expensive but worth it. One more thing, on every piece of floor you cover, make sure you have the grain of the carpet is going in the same direction, run your hand over the carpet and it will become apparent which way the grain goes.......mark each piece of floor the same way as the lids, that way you are sure which way to cover it so when it installs back in the boat, it all looks great, takes a bit more carpet but the results are worth it.

What would it cost to have someone recarpet your boat and where would one have it done? Is this something the dealer would do in his shop?
Most dealers out-source such work.
I got quotes a couple years back from auto-upholstry shops for an early 90's 17' crestliner that had seen too much sun. Estimates were between $1300-$2200 depending on materials and whether or not they needed to replace the wood. This was for full replacement of the interior (carpet, seats, vinyl, etc.). Carpet alone would probably be in the $600-$800 range.
Considering the amount of work involved (I'd guess 40-60 hours) and cost of materials, I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who could do a good job for much less.

We've re-done a few.
BTW....The wood is covered by warranty if you are the original owner (But it sounds like the wood is fine)
It is not a big job at all on a Rebel.
Most dealers would love work like that in December!
