Newbie here. Just purchased the boat in my signature & added a Lowrance HDS-5. I'm sure I will have a lot of questions But I'll start with one. I want to download the latest software for my Lowrance. Is there any limitation as far as recognizing the SD card or will anyone do? Don't want to order the wrong one & the manual doesn't mention it.

Maybe the HDS units are different, but the previous Lowrance units would work with SD chips 2 GB or smaller only. The 4GB and larger SD chips are identified as SDHC chips- not compatible. Check the manual. In the past, Lowrance recommended the SanDisk brand chips.

I have a Sandisk 2 GB that we borrowed from my daugthers camera. Worked great and was recognized right away. Popped the card into my 7 and it did the update all on it's own after I turned it on.

I checked the manual first, if they make any mention of a SD card I couldn't find it. I found a 4gb SDHC card & it worked just fine. Thanks for all responses.

That's actually good news! The new HDS products should have been designed to use SDHC chips and it's good to know that happened.
