Alumacraft is a top notch company. If the boat fits your needs and is priced right, I would not hesitate.

Wouldn't be in Southern Minnesota would it? If so, email me because it might be mine that I traded a few weeks ago and I can answer all of your questions. If its not the same rig I am familiar enough with the model to probably be of some help to you.

Do a searh on "alumacraft" and you will see lots of info.

We are on our third, and currently on two. One is a '97 TP 175. We like them.

My wife and I are on our 2nd Alumacraft. No problems with either one. Am currently looking at trading in on our 3rd. FYI.

Search the archives for Alumnacraft. there was a long post out here a couple weeks ago, mostly good things to say about them.

I just traded an alumacraft 175 magnum for a Lund 2000 fisherman because I needed a bigger boat for Erie. The Alumacraft was the best all around boat I have ever owned! It ran 42 mph with a Johnson 90 and was the best designed interior I have ever seen. In many ways I wish I had it Back, but I had some white-knuckle trips on Erie last summer and I wanted a Bigger boat. You can't go wrong if the price is right. BTW they have great trade-in value!

Hi

I bought a TP 175 console last year
115 4 stroke Yamaha
Great rig
Speed = 40 to 45 depending on load, etc.
Stable
Good floor plan/layout
Had one small problem with an air ride seat which was replaced by Alum.

An extra set of rollers placed on trailor really works great.
Goes on/off like a dream.
Get trailor brakes if possible.
Also, wave wackers are a must if you back troll.

I think a stainless prop might be a good investment if you are interested in a few more MPH's
thx
Jer

Been looking at the Magnum 175 myself. It is rated for 130 hp ... which is in the neighborhood of where I want to be. The only thing keeping me from trading my Magnum 165 CS on it is the fact that one cannot get a port side console.

Nice boat.

Hi Ken,

I love my 165 CS. It is a great boat with tons of storage. We spend a lot of time in it ... my wife, me, and our 2 black Labs (lol ... getting a little crowded which is why I am looking for something a little bigger).

Make sure you add Wave Wackers or when you slow suddenly you will take water over the stern and anything from the rear seat pedestal holes back will be wet, wet, wet. Wave Wackers will stop that.

Other than that, my only criticism is that I could not get a portside console (my wife is my fishing partner and I want her dry!).

My boat is a 1997 model and those were rated for 80hp max. The ones starting in 1998 were rated for 90 ... make sure you max it out. My 75 Mariner only turns 36 mph WOT ... which is disappointing for an 800 pound boat. But, this may partly be the engine ... my Mariner is a real dog ... I will never buy another Merc product (but that is another story).

Hope this helps.

Ken,

It rides the waves well. I have been very safe in very rough water on LOW.

Max out the HP. Unless you are only going to fish small Wisconsin lakes forever. If you don't ... and you want to get onto larger bodies of water ... you will be sorry.

Yup, Wave Wackers for sure!!!! If you ever try to back troll (or even back up or stop suddenly) in rough waters without them, you will get a VERY wet butt!!! BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!!

Ken ... sounds like a great rig for your dad. I bet he will love it. Also sounds like you got a great price on it. Good for you, guy. Mind telling me what dealer you bought it from????? If I upgrade to the 175 CS or the TP 185 I want to use a different dealer than the one I bought my 2 prior boats from.
