I recently broke one of the brass pins off of the back of my Garmin 240. When I turn the unit on it gives me a nessage that "Transducer is not connected" Does anyone know if the pins can be replaced, and if so how expensive is it? I do not want to spend alot on an older unit like the 240. Thanks, John.

Contact Garmin costumer service, they can quote you the repair and shipping cost to fix it. It should be repairable.
Make sure the broken pin is not stuck in the cord end, or you may bust the new pins trying to connect it again.
Sorny,
Garmin will NOT provide pins or a connector for your unit.
Rather, you will need to send your unit in and have Garmin fix it at thier convenience.
I had the same issue with another garmin unit. Nothing that I could not have fixed myself. All that was required was to take off the back, unplug the connector from the PC board, connect the connector to the back and put the back back on. However, Garmin would not send me the part and I was required to send in the unit.
However, I did talk to the supervisor of the repair department and was able to get the charges reduced substantially.
I think that if you check the garmin web site - garmin.com
and look under support - products out of warrenty, they will give you a complete list of repair costs by unit - irrespective of problems with the unit.
Here is the price from the Garmin web site:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html
That will be $125 to replace the broken pin, unless you can talk to the supervisor and get the price reduced.
Take care

REW,
Thanks for the info! I did pull the back off and as you said looks like an easy repair if they could just send the part. At a flat rate of $125.00 I will replace with something else. Do you have need for a trolling motor transducer and a power cable for a Garmin 240? I f so you can have them. Thanks, John

if you can get to the pins I would try taking it to an electronics store and see if they can match something up (not a Radio Shack a real electronics store)
worth a shot anyway

The same thing happened to me. $125.00 is ridiculous. a brand new unit is not that much more. I did see an article in Bass & Walleye Boats about a year or so ago about a company that makes a pin repair kit. It was a lot less than $125.00 if my memory serves correct. You might want to check back-issues of B&WB.
