Has anyone mounted a PinPoint 7520 with Johnny Ray
mounts? Trying to decide whether to order JR300 or JR500 mounts. JR500 mounts for locators such as Lowrance X-75,X-X-85, Optima while Cabelas catalog indicates JR300 for Lowrance, Bottom Line, Inpulse, Apelco, Si-Tex. Would like to use smaller JR300 for consol mounting but not sure it will be wide enough for PinPoint 7520.

From experience I would suggest using RAM mounts. They are much more adjustable and offer a degree of shock absorbtion. I feel this shock absorbtion can only help the displays reliability. Something to consider.

I have both bow and console mounted 7520s, both secured with RAM mounts. Granted, they are more expensive than Johnny Ray, but I feel the additional cost is worth it.

Just a personal opinion, not knocking Johnny Ray.

I agree with Al. Go with the R-A-M. Yes it is more expensive, but the mounts are the best I have ever seen. Very good shock absorbtion and very adjustable.

I have used the smaller JR mounts on both my 7500 and 7520 with no ill effects. Just line up where you want your graph on the JR mount and a 1/4 inch drill bit will do the job quite nicely.

I had my 7520 on a Johnny Ray and recently switched it to a RAM. I think the RAM wins hands down it looks like it will be what all my electronics are mounted with in the future. They kind of $$$$$$$ but I think worth it.

The Johnny Ray will work just fine.
Before getting the 7520, I had another brand depth finder that war quite large. I had initally mounted the first depth finder on the smaller JR300 mount. I found that there was an unacceptable amount of "bounce" I replaced it with the much larger JR mount and had no problems.

Then when I got the 7520, I continued using the same large JR mount and have been very satisfied with the performance.

As the other posting suggest, the Ram mounts are also excellent if you so choose. I use the Ram mounts for the GPS and it works fine.

Last year, there was a posting by Mike Mclelland I believe, and he was suggesting the very robust mount that both tilts and turns. I don't recall the name, but it seems that that mount ran about $40.

Bottom line -- if in doubt -- go larger. You have a bit of money invested in that depth finder and you would like to keep it secure.

Take care

Control of vibration is a good point. When spending this much on a locator few extra bucks on mounting system is not a problem. I have a limited space on my consol into which to place the 7520 and would like to keep top of 7520 below level of windshield. Noticed RAM makes a "micro Ram" system". Anyone have any experience with the micro Ram system?? Anyone have a phone number or website for Ram?

The RAM web URL is: http://www.ram-mount.com/

I would recommend the larger mount for the 7520, that's what I'm using. With it you can adjust the "arm" so that it's parallel to the console mounting surface to even below parallel. The system is very versitile and the display can be raised, lowered, tilted, rotated, any position you can think of.

You would gain very little height advantage with the Micro RAM. You might want to visit the RAM web site and ask them for their recommendation. I just felt better with the larger unit.

Go with the RAM mounts for strength and adjustability to any angle. BUT, in an attempt to SAVE some $$$$, contact them directly and purchase their returned units. Once returned the items cannot be sold as new, so the co. is willing to sell at a discount just to move the units.

If no contact is made then your answer is automatically NO, but you wont know until you ask.

I agree with Al, go with the standard R-A-M, not the micro. In my opinion the micro is fine for small applications; cell phones, hand held GPS... but for your locator I would go with the larger size. I have BottomLine depth finders and I use the larger size R-A-M with absolutely no complaints. As Al said, the R-A-M units are VERY adjustable and you will probably find that it will fit your application perfectly.
