Hey guys.
I've only been posting on this board for a short period of time. And mostly because we're kinda in between season in the Saginaw Bay area. In about two weeks you should be rid of me. Anyway, I'm thinking of trying a new kind of line. Right now I use Cabela's Rip Cord S.i.,2/15. I like this line a lot but kinda miss the feel that good ol' mono gives ya. I used to be a Maxima man and beat many a steelhead, salmon and walleye into submission with it on my charters. It's strength and abrassive resistant qualities never left me sorry I used it. It does have a terrible memory problem though, when on the small spooled reels I use for river fishing applications. I've been thinking about trying that new line out called Cajun Lightning. It's in the Calela's Spring edition/edition 1 catalog. This line is red and probably has good visability while out of the water. And brags that it dissapears faster while in, because red is the first wavelength to disapear under water. And the price is a lot cheaper than the .10 a yard I'm paying now for the Rip Cord. Has anybody used this stuff? Capt: Dan.

I have been using the Cajun line for a few months now and will not buy anymore. Here are my observations:

1)The red color has not helped me to catch any more fish than any other color as of yet. I still have the Cajun line on a few reels and will give it another shot this weekend for eyes and bass down at Conchas NM.

2)Real bad memory problems. On one of my baitcasters, just lastnight, I stripped off about 80 yards to put on some Spiderwire and the Cajun line sat coiled in a small spot on the floor where I stripped it off. Usually when I strip off line onto the floor, it takes a minute to gather it up and wrap it around my hand before pitching it onto the trash. The Cajun line sat there in a nice, tightly wound clump, picked it up with one hand and threw it in the trash.

It does seem to have a little more sensitivity than typical mono but that is about the only positive thing I can say at this time.

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like it has the same memory factor as Maxima. You didn't mention rather you were satisfied with the lines strength or not. And what line test were you using. I usually got less memory when using 4 to 6 pound test with the Max, while being satisfied with the results. I use about 4,000+ yards a year given the 20 rods I keep in my charter arsenal. Berkleys Big Game Supreme fills my trolling rods, but it to isn't given away price wise. Sure would like to save some doe while not sacrificing quality. Capt: Dan.

Boy - I almost wonder if Maxima makes that line cause the characteristics sound the same. I bought a spool of 6 lb. and a spool of 12 lb. The 12 lb. seems to have worse memory than the 6 lb. As far as line strength, I never tested the line for actual numbers but it did seem to hold up to it's advertised pound test. Now that I think about it, the line did seem to abrade more easily than other types of mono.

Heck, send me your address and I will mail you the 12 lb spool. I have used about 200 of the 1200 yards. If you dont like it, toss it in the trash.

Man, thanks. I'll try in on my trolling reel, as 12pound on my jigging rods on the river would be overkill. Access my web site and the listed address is the same as my home address. If your ever in this part of the world we'll cross some eyes. Capt: Dan. www.walleye-express.com

It will be in the mail in the next few days. Let me know what you think of it, maybe I am too critical/picky.

I'll spool one trolling reel up with it for the night bite that starts in about 2 or 3 weeks. Might even try it while whippin on the St.Claire. I'll give her a fair shake and let you know. Thanks again, Capt: Dan.

Cap. Dan where do you whip at on the St. Clair? I live in St. Clair and the temp. is still in the 36 deg. range. Its not much different down by the power plants. We're having a tournament in May, I'll put it on WC when we get the days.

I fish between the Marine City ramp and the Park. Usually from late May through early to mid June. Last year we caught 32 walleye in one night and our worst trip was 13. I ran 3 charters out of Marine City, but it's almost 130 miles form my house near Saginaw Bay. The #26 Nite Stalker caught 75% of our fish last year. Capt: Dan.
