What do you guys do to stop the line from twisting when trolling spoons? I have arthritis in my hands so I spend a lot of time trolling. I have tried all different kinds of swivles and mulitipul swivles with no luck. I use 6# line do I need to switch to a heaver line?

Using a Sampo or Spro swivel you should not have ANY line twist...if you do. It's not the swivel your doing something else wrong elsewhere. What other hardware are you running the spoons with? Line diameter shouldn't matter.

I would suggest a good BALL BEARING swivel as kgone mentioned but absolutely go heavier with the line. I would suggest at least 12-15 lb test. Spoons are not a finess technique as much as they are geared at getting reaction strikes so no. Real benifit to light line.

Heavier line won't help unless you add the swivel, like said ball bearing ones seem to work best and Samp makes some very good ones.
I tie a swivel onto the end of my line, then add a 3 or 4+ foot section of line to tie onto the lure if I don't want any tackle attached to the lure.
Make the swivel a snap open style and you can pre tie several lures with a section of line and changing is easier then, if that makes sense..:)

I use Power Pro line and tie on a good ball bearing barrel swivel with an 8 lb fluorocarbon leader and then a snap only to connect to the lure. Have no problems with line twist.

Sometimes I just connect two bb swivels together and then put the lure on. This works when harnesses start twisting up. Should work for spoons too.......????????

If ballbearing swivels don't corret your line twisting, how fast are you going anyway???
Good luck,

Most of the time I am trolling for northerns and using a steel leeder with 8# test line. I troll with a 40hp Johnson on a 16.5' boat, normally running it as slow as it will go. I only speed troll for walleys. Then I use a stick or crank bait of some kind.
