I'm looking at purchasing this unit. The X75 has 600 watts compared to the X85 which has 3000 watts. I never fish in waters any deeper than 50 ft. Can anyone tell me if there is an advantage to having more watts when fishing shallow waters and if there is will I really notice the difference for the extra $84?

Thanks in advance!

i fish similar conditions. i was assured the 85 would be a waste. the density of salt water or great depths require more power. i bought the 75 for the bow and am reasonably happy.

one problem i have is it wacks out at about 75'. the only thing i can figure is that is the point at which the 75 cone intersects with the Bottomline cone on the transom but the Bottomline remains unaffected. the botomline runs at 200 the 75 at 192. perhaps the lesser MHz of the 75 makes it susceptible? i don't know. an e-mail to Lowrance never received a reply which would make me hesitate to buy their product again. lots and lots of folks tho on this forum believe strongly in Lowrance so one has to decide for himself. good luck.
