As I was butchering my whitetail in my barn my lab got fed bits and pieces of the raw venison. I figured he was getting his supper early and what could be better for a canine. The next day he started vomiting and the following day would not keep water down. My vet kept him for 5 days, two rounds of anti-biotics and two bags of fluid saved his life. I brought him home and he was good for about four days and now he is in the hospital again on fluid and anti-biotics. I will pick him up later today. Hopefully the bacteria or what ever caused the infection is done. Had x-rays also.
Never found much on the internet that was anti-raw meat, but found some stuff promoting raw meat.
I love my dog and sure got a big scare this time, hope this has a happy ending. Beware what your dog eats.

Strange, I've fed both my dogs and cats raw venison with no problems.

We have given our animals raw meat for years during hunting season whenever we butchered a deer, never had an issue like the one your describing. Did the vet do any testing? I wonder what type of bacteria?

Are you sure that your dog didn't get into some rat or mouse poison while in the barn? I have feed a few deer scrapes four years with no problems.

If that venison was the cause of your dog getting so sick I would be very very very cautious about human consumption.

I second that.
