Nice spears, well balanced and throw true! He's from MN. I had the opportunity to use and take a 21lb pike with one of his spears last year. Very nice spear! Tried to buy it off my bud...no go! LOL
I personally throw a Amish made 7 tine, you can find them from time to time at the sporting goods stores, I got mine from the St. Cloud sportsmans warehouse when it first opened, unfortunatly it's no longer open. Nice spear, no nonsense, throws true, good weight.
There was a guy at the ice show last year that made custom spears, these were works of art! Not sure if he was there this year as I didn't attend. Unreal craftsmanship with interchangable tines, forward weight and handles. I wish I could remember his name as these were the finest looking spears I'd ever seen!! Maybe someone could refresh my memory?? I want to say he was out of montana?? I had his card in my wallet up until this summer when I took a "swim"...got wet and destroyed it.
What the "best spear" consists of is a personal preference. Number of tines? Double or single barb, flat stock or round bar? Handle size/material? My personal Amish spear is round bar, single barb, 7 tine. Find what you like and go with it. I've owned and or thrown several different types, all worked fine but I feel the Fabeck spear(link) felt the nicest in my hand and had great penetration. I can't discount my Amish either but if I had a need another it will be a fabeck or of I can track down the guy from the ice show...one of his.
EDIT...
I tracked the guy from the 08 ice show...or at least a pic of his pamphlet!! Here's the link to the pic. Trust me when I say this pic does NOT do his work justice!!! They have to be seen to believe how beautiful his work is!! Seems he doesn't have a website??
