I have a cutco fillet knife, which is great, but it smells. It is an adjustable knife, and the blade moves through a slot in the handle. Fish slime, guts, blood, whatever must have accumalated down there over time, even though I washed it often.
The opening is small, so how do you clean it well? I've let it soak, but the smell still lingers. Any suggestions?

Bleach or tilex; Or, try the car wash. Have someone hold it that is not afraid to get wet, hit the small opening with the high pressure sprayer.

Try the automatic dishwasher.

Just wondering how you like your knife. I had mine about 4 years and sat down in my van with the knife in my back pocket. Sent it to cutco and they sent me a new knife and sheath. It was really nice to have a compony treat customers so well. The sheath is almost as handy as the adjustable blade.

Stewart.
Try boiling the whole knife in salt water with lemon juice in it.
The lemon and salt usually break down the bacteria that causes the smell.

water pic....
I'd stay away from dishwasher and other high heat stuff as might lose some of the temper.
Sold Cutco 20+ years ago...but haven't seen this one.

Thanks for the suggestions :)
Will boiling hurt the plastic?Or bleach? It's black plastic.
I tried soaking it in lemon and water a while ago, and that didn't help. Maybe it takes more heat?
Scott, love the knife, and it made my list of favourite things a post a while back. My Dad bought it for me, and when I first saw the case it honestly looked gimcky to me. I cut myself pretty good once when I didn't slide it back into the right part too, but now I'm more careful.I've had rapala knives before, but I could never go back. This knife stays sharp much longer.

I can take the blade out completely, or are you talking about the plastic becoming soft?
