Is there a decent public boat ramp on Mille Lacs to use for some early season walleyes? I've never fished the lake and am looking to give it a go after May 11th. Also, are there any areas such as shallow rocky reefs that'll chew up props and lower units that I should be aware about? Where would someone start after purchasing a decent map, I assume the famed mud flats? Finally what channel if any do fisherman monitor on their vhf radios? Sorry for so many questions, not sure where else to turn to this time of year.

Thanks

Mille Lacs is an excellent choice for early season walleyes. Nearly all the ramps are good. Garrison might be a good choice for fishing the reefs. Most of the shallow reefs will be marked by bouys. All the reefs are near shore, so it's not as dangerous as a lot of lakes. Early on the rock areas will be great, don't forget to check the sand break on the north end. The flats will hold fish at all times of the year, but the bite definately picks up toward mid-summer. Good luck.

Pay seven dollars and go out of Terrys Boat harbor. The Griz a well known guide goes out of there and they have a nice boat ramp with a protected harbor. www.terrysboatharbor.com

Be careful of terry's ramps they are pretty muddy-- your trailer has a tendency to sink when loading and unloading-- been there before.
