I have a garmn 255 automotive gps. Will it also show lake maps if I was to buy a lake map SD chip to put in the chip port? Would like to have a map for ice fishing and mark spots with and my 997 is way too big to make portable. Thanks

according to the Lakemaster site http://www.lakemap.com/documents/GarminCompatibiltyList_2009.pdf your 255 is compatible with the micro sd card product they offer. Heck, they even sell 200-series units, which is basically the same as what you have. http://www.lakemap.com/garmingpsunits-1.aspx

I had a similar question about 3 weeks ago.
A limitation of the 255 is the battery. I was told, but have not confirmed for myself, the battery life is something like 2 hours.
You may be able to figure out a work-around to keep her running longer than that.

Thanks guys. Looks like my nuvi 255w will work after all which is great. Yes Nimstug, the battery life is from 2 to 3 hours if you run it continuously. I think I have a solution to that problem. My idea is to get one of those 12v vexilar batteries you can get for about $25 and just attach a cigarette lighter to it and plug in the nuvi charger if it gets low out on the ice.
