I have a HDS 5 with a 08 premium north chip.
Would a PLATIUM chip be that much better for Lake Francis Case in SD?
Thanks, Jim

I dont know about the Platinum, but the Francis Case map is just barely better than no mapping at all. Lake Sharpe on the other hand is simply amazing.

From what I can see, the contour information is the same on both chips. With Platinum, you will get the photo overlays and 3-D views.

I have not run a Navionics Platinum chart with the latest HDS software from Lowrance (10-19-09 release), but Lowrance is saying that mapping performance with a Platinum chip has improved.

Also, make sure you are comparing the most current chart data Navionics offers. Based on the previous posters comments, I'm guessing he has an older chart. By way of example, I've attached a screen shot using Navionic's NavPlanner of the Interstate 90 bridge area from the 2009 Navionics Hotmaps Premium North chart.
