I've heard second hand that there could be a potential problem with the walleye/perch fillets on Leech and another lake up north. This person heard this on the radio in the Twin City's area. The story says that if you find opaque spots on the fillets that your supposed to contact the DNR. What's up with this?

I heard the same report on WCCO 830. They reported that there is an unknown parasite in these fish that causes the filets to be pale by comparison and you are to dispose of these fish until more information can be gathered. This report said that Leech and several other lakes were effected, but only referenced to perch. I did not hear anything about walleye. Perhaps someone else can confirm that.

I read an article about that as well, and as far as I know, it only affects perch and it is in Leech Lake. They are finding the same problem in Lake Michigan perch. I think they cited perch on the Eagle River Chain in Wisconsin, as well. The article was giving the same warning as they do for aquatic plants. Make sure you empty your livewells, etc. when moving to a different body of water.
Just came back from Leech. Seems to be a parasite problem with some of the perch. Some locals claim that you can get sick from eating these infected fish. Heard nothing about the walleye. All the fish we caught were free of any parasites, including the 6# eye my friend caught. Hope they solve the problem....Leech is a fish factory..
Take care
